ABOUT DR. RIFFAT
Faruque is a consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon with post-FRACS fellowship training in head and neck oncology, paediatric ENT, thyroid/parathyroid surgery and adult airway open/endoscopic laser surgery.
He joined the Westmead Hospital ENT/Head Neck team after a period as a consultant in the head and neck team in Cambridge University Hospitals and is also the consultant in charge of the Westmead Tracheostomy Liaison Service.
Following the completion of his HSC as Dux of North Sydney Boys High School, Faruque commenced his medical degree at UNSW graduating in 2002 with MBBS (Hons 1), obtaining prizes in anatomy and microbiology. His entire JMO training was at Westmead Hospital and he finished basic surgical training in 2005 after obtaining the prize for the highest score for the FRACS part 1. He has also been awarded a Master of Surgery.
After a series of teaching hospital rotations (Westmead, Prince of Wales, Royal North Shore, Liverpool, Westmead /Sydney Childrens’ and John Hunter) in the NSW otolaryngology training scheme, including 18 months of tertiary paediatric ENT surgery, he was awarded the FRACS (ORL) in 2010. He then embarked on fellowship training to London and Cambridge focusing on paediatric and adult airway surgery, oncological surgery and thytoid/parathyroid surgery.
He has an active interest in teaching and research in ENT/Head and Neck, having completed a masters in surgical education and has been involved in over 80 peer reviewed publications and abstracts (for articles search Riffat F in www.pubmed.com).
Faruque treats public adult and children through Westmead and Nepean Hospital and the area health service and private through Norwest, Westmead Private and Macquarie University Hospital.

Dr Riffat was co-convener of head and neck section of Annual Scientific Meeting of Australian Society of Otolaryngology meeting in Sydney in 2015. This is the largest annual meeting of ENT Surgeons in Australia (www.asohns.org.au)
